My Pastor, Andy Taylor has infuriated me many, many times, because I will come to him asking for his advice and he in turn would ask, “What’s Father saying to you?” I used to respond, “Now, if I knew what He was saying I wouldn’t be here asking you, would I?!?” Over the years, Pastor Andy has given Leslie and I some sound advice and pointed us to scripture, but the greatest gift he gave us was the reality that we have access to the same eternal resource that he does. The voice of God.

I’m so thankful for the many believers that stay in a place of seeking spiritual revelation that brings the wisdom of God into natural dilemmas. However, I believe many Christians live in a place of trusting God for the forgiveness of sin and the hope of eternal life, but miss the joy of hearing His voice in this life. It’s what I call Christian atheism. They are believers in Jesus, but because of bad teaching they have been reduced to simply trying to get through this life and only look forward to heaven. The Holy Spirit is more like an idea rather than a person to these believers, and unfortunately, the information they use to make decisions primarily comes from the world or what a preacher told them.

As believers in Christ, we literally carry the Spirit of God and must adjust our thinking and embrace the spiritual world. (Romans 8:11) With what is currently happening on this planet, it is obvious that the world believes in something that they cannot see (Covid-19). I believe that the faith, hope and love that we possess, an unseen attribute, can be just as tangible as an invisible virus. What if our wisdom caused us to embrace the promises of God to such a degree that our conduct displayed the reality of this unseen world called the Kingdom of God?

What greater resource could we ever obtain than the ability to hear from God? It is what we live for – trusting and acting upon every word that proceeds from His mouth. (Matthew 4:4) It requires adjustments on our side of the relationship, not His.

For me, it is a heart posture that longs to hear Him, quiet-secret places within myself that helps me get out of my own brain and really connect to my Father’s heart. Sometimes He encourages, corrects, or instructs me – sometimes He just holds me.

We have already been given everything that pertains to life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) The Word of God is living and active. (Hebrews 4:12) We are no longer being conformed to the ways of this world, but we are being transformed by the renewing our minds. (Romans 12:2)

Today – seek first the Kingdom (Jesus) and His righteousness, and all these other things will be added. (Matthew 6:33) Today – draw close, listen to the still small voice and worship the King of Kings!
