Unity Requires Diversity
Because of the unique lifestyle we’ve lived, I have never attached myself to a particular denomination. As a result, I have little understanding why people that are truly a part of the Body of Believers would refuse to partner with each other. It’s heartbreaking to me…
Through this week’s “Born Wild – Texas Tour” and next months’s events in Idaho and Georgia – we will have the privilege of working with the Church of Christ, Gospel for Asia, Cowboy Churches, Baptists, Pentecostals, Catholics and even Texans! Although I see differences in some important issues to me – what I really “see” is a common desire for people to experience the love and power of God, and ultimately lead people into the Kingdom of Jesus.
Psalm 133 expresses the blessing of unity – “for behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell in unity!” I don’t know about you, but the reality that God would command a blessing over us makes me extremely motivated to align myself to others in the faith and embrace diversity. We tend to surround ourselves with people who think and act like us, but the truth is we rarely grow in those settings. In order for us to actually experience this life-giving dynamic, we must decide what are the non-negotiables in our core beliefs and let the other issues fall away.
Consider your part in this. Honor the strengths in others and let’s fight for unity by embracing diversity…
