A great man once told me that “you can teach what you know, but you impart who you are.”
As my boys have become men, I realize more and more the weight of that statement. I continue to see them display characteristics of who I am, but I don’t think I ever told them to do so. Some say, “We influence people more by our actions than our words.” However you put it, the reality is that there is something powerful about you being you – fully alive.
You are the one that Jesus entrusted the treasure of heaven, His Spirit. You are the temple, the vessel that carries His presence into the world. He said that you are the light of the world. It literally means that without us, His people, there would be NO hope for the world.
The video attached to this post is one many of you may have seen, but I want you to watch it, share it, meditate on it – and ask yourself this question: What skills or information were taught to this horse that made such a radical difference?
Or did something else happen? This is a 4 year old stallion that has never been touched by human hands and I had 50 minutes to work with it. The setting is in Angola Prison, where the horse and I are surrounded by hundreds of men who have committed such significant crime that they earned a life sentence with no possibility of parole. What had to happen in that short amount of time to make an aggressive, fully mature, wild horse become a trusted friend and partner?
If you can answer that question, then you will take a giant step forward in seeing the power of your influence. You become like that which you worship.
Watch this video, and I would love to hear your comments…
